The diet of a mother who feeds her baby with breast milk should consist of healthy foods. After all, it has long been known that all the substances contained in the mother's food are transmitted to the child through breast milk. Therefore, a woman should exclude some of the not very healthy products from her diet or limit their use.
As a rule, a woman needs to know about such products in advance, before the baby is born and be ready for this. Morale is critical to avoiding your favorite foods painlessly. At the same time, the daily calorie requirement for a nursing mother increases by about 300-500 kcal, which must be collected through only wholesome and healthy food.
Babies who are fed with mother's milk are an order of magnitude less sick with all kinds of infectious diseases, much less often suffer from allergies.
Key recommendations
It is worth noting, first of all, that the diet of a nursing mother should consist of fresh, natural products that do not contain chemical additives. Currently, experts have not come to an unambiguous opinion about a clear list of products that should not be consumed. Without a doubt, honey, alcohol, citrus fruits and chocolate should not be consumed. These foods in most cases cause allergies in babies. In addition, you should not overuse dairy products, since they are believed to hinder the digestion of a child and provoke colic. New products should be introduced into your diet gradually, in small portions, observing the reaction of the child's body to this or that product. The most severe restrictions are set in the first weeks of a baby's life. The newborn's digestive system is not yet adapted to the new diet, so this stage is the most important.
A nursing mother should forget for a while about hot sauces and seasonings, fatty foods, and liquids containing gases. It is best to replace carbonated drinks with freshly squeezed juices. In addition, foods that contribute to the formation of gas in the baby's intestines should be excluded from the diet. These include grapes, cabbage, apples, radishes, and legumes. In the first few months of feeding, it is not recommended to eat foods of red color and smoked meats (for example, red caviar, tomatoes, etc.) Meat must be present in the diet, but you should not buy broilers - they are grown with the help of various chemical additives.
If a woman wants to have a snack between meals, you can eat cheese, diet rye croutons, fresh or frozen fruits, raw and boiled vegetables.
Must-have products
There are some dishes that can and should be included in the daily menu. This applies to all kinds of cereals - they have a positive effect on the digestive system of the mother and baby, replenish the deficiency of vitamins, and also provide the energy necessary for life. An exception is rice porridge, which fixes the stool and can cause constipation in a child. Meat, fish, and vegetables should not be fried, but stewed or baked. Salads should be seasoned with vegetable or olive oil. A nursing mother must definitely eat protein foods - cottage cheese, as well as hard cheeses. But you need to be careful with eggs, it is better to cook an omelet from them a couple of times a week. A nursing mother needs to consume a lot of fluids to make milk. Best suited for this are dried fruit compotes, sweet tea with milk, still water. During the holidays, you can drink some non-alcoholic beer that does not contain preservatives.
You shouldn't completely give up all your favorite foods and drinks. If mom, for example, loves coffee very much, it is perfectly acceptable to have a cup of coffee with milk in the morning.
As you can see, the list of products that a nursing mother can eat is quite extensive. You can cook delicious and very healthy dishes from them. Just do not overeat - after childbirth, being overweight is quite difficult to fight.
