Choosing a snowboard for a child is a very crucial moment. To make the right purchase, the following parameters must be taken into account: the length and weight of the snowboard, the weight and height of the child, the width and rigidity of the board.
Instructions
Step 1
Observe what exactly attracts your child to snowboarding. There are several styles of riding, the choice of a snowboard directly depends on the style of skiing. Freestyle is a style that involves performing various tricks. Carving - downhill from the mountains using cut turns. The essence of freeride is riding at high speed in deep snow with jumps from mountain ledges. Another style is universal, it combines various tricks and speed skating. Usually, markings are placed on the snowboard indicating which style it is intended for.
Step 2
Check the rigidity of the snowboard. Soft boards are made for freestyle and freeride, hard ones for carving. For beginners in snowboarding, it is best to purchase soft to medium hard boards.
Step 3
Choose a snowboard based on your child's height and weight. Each board must be accompanied by a special table of correspondence between these parameters and the length of the snowboard. In a simplified way, the board should be slightly higher than the child's chin. Because children are constantly growing, parents want to buy a snowboard a little longer than necessary, but this cannot be done. Riding the wrong snowboard can cause injury.
Step 4
Please note that the smaller the width of the snowboard, the easier it is to handle. But the leg should not protrude beyond its surface by more than 1 cm. Otherwise, the legs will interfere with skiing, touching the snow.
Step 5
Try to lift your snowboard. It should not be too heavy, the child should easily lift it by the nose with one hand.
Step 6
Choose boot bindings and boots using the following knowledge. Soft boots are designed for freestyle and freeriding, hard ones for carving. Do not buy boots "for growth", otherwise the leg will not be fixed in them enough, which is very dangerous. Bindings are different and also depend on the riding style. Hard bindings are necessary for carving, and soft bindings for freestyle and freeriding. A prerequisite for both one and the other types of bindings is that they must hold the boots very well.
Step 7
Check carefully that the board, bindings and boots you choose fit together perfectly. Only then can you be sure of the safety of your child.
