Reading is a skill that is essential in school. After all, the student has to absorb a huge amount of information every day. And if in the first grade schoolchildren receive most of this information from the mouth of the teacher, then starting from the second grade they have to do many tasks on their own, and here one cannot do without the ability to read.

In most schools for the new programs, first graders do not have any requirements for reading technique, however, starting from the second quarter, the reading speed is checked every quarter. This control allows you to track the skills of students. Since in the first grade, grades for mastering the material are not given, some mothers are not particularly worried that their child has problems with reading speed, and they do nothing to improve these indicators. But in vain! Indeed, without the ability to read quickly enough and at the same time to understand what was read is the guarantee of good studies in the future, especially in elementary school, when there are no exact sciences.

Now for the reading technique. Now all schools work according to different programs ("Primary School of the 21st Century", "School 2100", "School of Russia", "Harmony", "Advanced Primary School", "Classical Primary School", "Planet of Knowledge" and "Perspective"), and each program has its own requirements for students. For example, in the "School 2100" program, the requirements for students are slightly higher, this also applies to reading techniques. However, if we take the average indicators of programs, then the reading speed of "first graders" should be as follows:

  • in the first quarter - no requirements;
  • in the second quarter - from 10 words (10-15 - for "3", 16-20 - for "4", above 21 - for "5");
  • in the third quarter - from 20 words (20-25 - to "3", 26-30 - to "4", from 31 - to "5");
  • in the fourth quarter - from 25 words (25-30 - to "3", 31-35 - to "4", from 36 - to "5").

It is worth remembering that if the child reads less than the above, then you need to try to improve the reading technique. After all, the ability to read and understand information well is very important, without this skill the student cannot master the program well enough, which will affect his further studies.
