Quite often, in young children, a light yellow crust forms on the scalp. It does not cause inconvenience to the baby and is not dangerous to health, but it looks rather unattractive, so many parents try to get rid of it as soon as possible.

It is necessary

  • -vegetable oil;
  • -soft brush.

Step 1

As a rule, a crust on a baby's head appears immediately after birth, and sometimes even later - in the interval from 3 to 6 months of a baby's life. Experts have not yet figured out the reasons for its appearance. Some believe that this is a consequence of allergic reactions to milk protein, while others are of the opinion that maternal hormones, which entered the child's body during pregnancy, are to blame for the appearance of a crust on the baby's head.

Step 2

Never use your fingers to scrape or exfoliate the crust from the baby's head. By doing this, you risk damaging the delicate scalp and opening the gate to various infections. Proceed carefully and slowly.

Step 3

Soak a cotton swab in regular vegetable oil or special baby oil. Apply liberally to baby's scalp. Put on the cap and let the oil sit for 5-6 hours. This procedure can be carried out in the bathhouse while bathing the child. Under the influence of warm air, the oil will better melt and be absorbed into the crust, and this will even better facilitate its easy removal from the child's head.

Step 4

When the oil is absorbed, use a soft brush to gently remove the crust. You need to comb it out in the direction of hair growth. If the first time you were unable to completely remove the scales, repeat the procedure, but do not tear them off forcibly, otherwise you will inflict bleeding scratches on the baby's head.

Step 5

Wash your hair with baby shampoo and once again try to gently remove the crust with a brush. Repeat the procedure until the crust disappears completely from the baby's head.

Step 6

If it is very difficult to comb out the crust and after several oil procedures it does not want to lag behind the scalp or appears again, consult a pediatrician for advice. Perhaps there are other reasons for its appearance that will need to be eliminated.
