A runny nose in newborns most often has a physiological feature and passes after a short period of time. But this is only if the baby has not caught a cold and the accumulation of mucus in the nose is not of bacterial origin. It is not recommended to relieve nasal congestion in newborns with vasoconstrictor drops. It is possible to alleviate the condition by washing the baby's nose.
Instructions
Step 1
Take a special rubber bulb and remove excess mucus from your baby's nasal passages. If this is not done, the rest of the procedures will be ineffective. The mucus will interfere with the movement of the solution, and the water will flow back.
Step 2
It is highly undesirable to rinse the newborn's nose with water and salt; it is better to buy special solutions of water and sea salt at the pharmacy. But if there is nowhere to go and the pharmacy is far away, then dilute a teaspoon of salt in a liter of warm water.
Step 3
Remove the needle from the syringe and draw up 5 ml of saline solution. It is impossible to rinse with a rubber bulb, since you will not be able to see the amount of liquid that has accumulated in the container and the child may drown in water.
Step 4
Lay the baby on one side and gently pour the water and salt from the syringe into the nose. Make sure that at this moment the child's mouth is open. Repeat the procedure with the other nostril. If the child chokes on some water, then place his tummy in the palm of your hand and lightly slap on the back. Do everything very carefully, because newborn babies are very gentle and the slightest manifestation of strength can lead to undesirable consequences.
Step 5
If you have the opportunity to buy special children's salt solutions, use them. Rinse according to the instructions for the preparation. These products will not only rinse the nose, but will also kill germs, if any, in the mucus.
