A compliment is a few pleasant words addressed to the interlocutor that can endear him to you, even if you barely know him. Absolutely all people like compliments, but no one likes flattery, so for praise, choose a person's quality that you really like. In order not to think about compliments for a long time, it is useful to find out what they are.
Instructions
Step 1
A direct compliment. Such a compliment is built in the usual way: you address a person and give him a characteristic, highlighting some special detail. You can use the person's name or title as the address, but you can add words such as “dear”, “beloved”, “respected”, depending on the situation. These words in themselves are already a kind of compliments. It is important that the appeal does not give the impression of a stamp. Often there is no appeal in the compliment. Then the statement begins with the words "you" or "you."
Step 2
You can praise anything in a compliment. For example, if a compliment is made to a woman, then it is appropriate to say something about her appearance: it could be beauty, style, eye color, or hairstyle. You can use the comparative or superior form, saying that a person is only getting better every day in something or that he is the best in a particular business.
Step 3
Comparison is a good compliment method. Sometimes a person is compared to someone, and here it is better to use literary or cinematic characters who appear in the imagination in an idealized form. Real people, even celebrities, tend to have flaws in people's eyes. When comparing with literary characters, it is convenient to praise a person's inner positive qualities, for example, intelligence, discernment, or kindness. So, you can tell the interlocutor that he is smart, like Sherlock Holmes.
Step 4
An indirect compliment. Such a compliment does not praise the addressee directly, but something related to him. For example, when it comes to a young mother, you can note how wonderful her children are. Men are usually happy when they admire their car. Depending on the situation and relationship with the person, other objects can be identified, the praise of which will be appropriate in this situation.
Step 5
A compliment is an antithesis. This type of compliment requires the author to be extremely precise in his statement, but at the same time it is the most effective and memorable one. First, something negative should be reported about the person, and then positive, which will significantly outweigh the first negative part. It is better that "minus" is not a real quality of a person, but your reaction, which you explain in the second part of the statement. For example, you can say to a beautiful woman: "I would not call you beautiful, but I would say that you are just gorgeous!"
Step 6
A compliment is the answer. If you were given a compliment, then you can get off with a banal answer "You too," or you can approach the question more creatively. Nevertheless, this type of compliment is usually perceived as a tribute to etiquette, rarely who thinks that he was praised from the bottom of his heart.
