Walking is an integral part of baby care. Its duration depends on many factors: weather conditions, desires and well-being of the mother and the child himself.
The baby needs fresh air from the first weeks of life. Walking with the newborn promotes sound sleep, thanks to the saturation of the lungs with oxygen, in addition, vitamin D is produced in the sun, which protects the baby from rickets.
When to walk
Many pediatricians are inclined to believe that with babies born in the warm season, you need to walk from the moment of discharge from the hospital, and with newborns born in autumn and winter - in the second week of life. Thus, the body of the crumbs quickly adapts to the environment. In order for the little man to get used to the fresh winter air, the first walk can be arranged on the balcony or in a carefully ventilated room.
In any case, the first walks should start from 15-20 minutes, gradually increasing the time spent with the baby in the air up to two hours by the age of one month.
In winter, they walk with the newborn at temperatures up to minus 10 degrees and not for long. If a cold wind blows outside, the walking time should be limited to a maximum of half an hour, while placing a warm blanket or mattress on the bottom of the stroller. Experienced pediatricians advise the baby himself not to dress too warmly and not to cover his nose with a blanket. The optimal amount of clothing for a newborn is one layer more than the mother is wearing.
In the warm season, you can be on the street with a baby at least the whole day. In practice, however, most babies are able to take a walk from feeding to feeding. For infants, this time ranges from half an hour to an hour, for bottle-fed babies a little longer - up to an hour and a half. During extreme heat, at temperatures above 25-30 degrees, long walks are not recommended so that the newborn does not receive heat or sunstroke. In this case, walking in a shaded place is perfect, or the time spent on the street should be postponed to early morning or evening.
How much to walk
Young mothers often have the question of how many times to go out with a baby. It all depends on the well-being of the woman herself and the little crumbs. If both are feeling well, then the walks can be done twice a day in good weather. In other cases, there is nothing wrong with taking a walk with the little one only once a day or not going out for a walk at all, but limiting the baby's stay on the glassed-in balcony or in a well-ventilated room.
Summarizing all of the above, we can highlight the main rules of walking. It is necessary to walk with a newborn child at least once a day. Over time, the walk is determined by the mother, guided by weather conditions and common sense.
In the first weeks of life with a baby, you should not go outside at temperatures above 30 or below 15 degrees. During a walk, you should not tangle the baby too much, the baby should be dressed according to the weather and a layer more than the mother is wearing.
