Zucchini puree as the first complementary food

After a baby reaches 4-6 months of age, he no longer has enough of those nutrients that are found in breast milk or artificial milk formula. It is during this period that pediatricians are advised to introduce the first complementary foods. To begin with, the baby should be introduced to vegetable purees.

It is worth starting complementary foods with one-component products. In this case, zucchini puree is ideal. This vegetable does not cause allergies and is easy to digest. It is very useful as it contains a large amount of minerals, vitamins and other valuable substances. Zucchini is rich in iron, potassium, phosphorus, magnesium. It can be prepared quite easily, which is sure to please mothers who have very little free time.

How to make zucchini puree

For mashed potatoes, it is better to choose fresh, medium-sized vegetables. Frozen foods can also be used if the feeding period is in winter or spring. It is advisable to make preparations yourself to be sure of the quality of frozen vegetables.

Zucchini should be washed, peeled, pulp and seeds removed, and the dense part should be cut into small cubes. If they were grown on a garden bed without the use of chemical fertilizers, immediately after grinding, you can begin to heat them. Zucchini bought in a store or on the market must be soaked in cold water for 1-2 hours immediately before cooking. This will clean them from the remains of nitrates and other agricultural fertilizers.

In order to cook chopped zucchini, you need to lower them in a saucepan and simmer over low heat for 10-15 minutes. During heat treatment, a large amount of tissue juices is released from them, so you should not initially add a lot of water to the dishes.

In order to preserve all the soluble vitamins and trace elements contained in the vegetable, you can boil it in a double boiler. In this case, the cooked puree will have even more nutritional value.

After heat treatment, you should wipe the zucchini through a sieve or grind it in a blender and feed the baby with the resulting puree. It is not necessary to procure it for future use, since the product cannot be stored for more than 1 day, even in the refrigerator. For children under 1 year old, it is better to offer freshly prepared zucchini every time.

For the first time, you should give the baby very little mashed potatoes. One teaspoon is sufficient. Further, the amount of the product can be gradually increased. You can also add chopped carrots, beets, potatoes to the puree.
