A year and a half is a good time to potty train your child. Moreover, this can be done not only at the reflex level. A kid at this age is already conscious enough to explain to him the purpose of the pot.
Convenient pot
First you need to choose a pot that will be convenient for your child. You may have to go through several different options until you find the one you want. It should be of a comfortable height and width.
Let the child enjoy sitting on the potty. But don't let him play with this object. The only potty play that a potty child can play is to simulate the process with toys. Have the baby put dolls and bears on the pot. A game like this will show you that the child has clearly understood its purpose.
Frequency and regularity
First, the baby should be potted out as often as possible. For example, do this every 20 minutes. The more the baby sits on the potty, the higher the likelihood that he will urinate in it, and not in his pants. Second, it's important to do it regularly. Always before bed, after walking and after eating, for example. If you do this, over time, the baby's body will develop a reflex: after eating, you need to go to the toilet. Going to the potty will become part of the daily routine.
Praise your success
Praising successes reinforces them far more effectively than swearing for failures. Of course, the mother's nerves are sometimes stretched to the limit, when the child is constantly wetting his pants and is not sitting on the potty. But you need to be patient. Your censure can easily make your toddler averse to the potty. So just calmly change your wet pants, explaining what is wrong to do so. But if he sat down on the pot on time, then be sure to praise him, show your sincere joy from this. You can even put pretty stickers on the pot for every successful time.
Remove the diapers
It is quite possible to use a diaper at 1, 5 years only for a period of sleep. Never wear it while awake at home. You may not always change your wet pants right away to make your baby feel uncomfortable. It is very difficult for a child to control urination in a diaper: he does not feel well when and how much he peed. Whereas in wet panties it quickly becomes unpleasant, which stimulates you to restrain yourself.
It is easier to stop using diapers for those who have reached the age of 1.5 years in the summer. In the warm season, you can often invite your child to go to the toilet, ask him about it. Even when the baby refuses, take him periodically to the bushes if you feel that the time has come. Always bring a set of extra clothing with you to change your wet pants in case of failure.
It is more difficult for those who are accustomed to the pot in winter. But even during the colder months, you can find ways to avoid having to wear a diaper for a walk. For example, try to go outside right after your toddler has urinated and take a short walk. Drink is best given after returning. Then you can stop using diapers.
Pot alternatives
If you have tried many models, and the child still does not want to sit on the potty, then you can teach him to control urination in other ways.
Some boys initially like to stand more during the process and watch the jet. In this case, you can place the baby in the tub or on the edge of it. This should be done frequently and regularly, as with a pot. Turn on a small pressure of water in the sink so that the sound of flowing water stimulates urination.
Another potty alternative is an adult toilet. You can think of several options here. Almost all babies love to give birth to adults. But parents do not sit on the potty. For starters, you can place it next to the toilet in the toilet. But if this does not help and the desire to sit on the potty does not appear, then get a special children's toilet seat. It is quite possible to explain to a child at 1, 5 that he now goes to the toilet like an adult. Of course, before that, you have to let your child see why the adults use the toilet. Your live example will complement verbal instructions well.
It will also be convenient for the boy to buy a step so that he can “walk on the little one” while standing on it. It is advisable that the baby first saw how dad does it.
The most important thing is to teach the child to restrain the first urge to urinate and teach him to regularly urinate on the potty or in the toilet. Someone at 1, 5 years old can endure an hour, and someone no more than 30 minutes. Watch your child carefully: over time, you will begin to notice when he wants to use the toilet. At the same time, it is not necessary to demand from the baby at 1, 5 years old, so that he immediately begins to "ask". Much more important for him during this period is understanding the purpose of the pot. Awareness and vocalization of your desire will appear much later.
