A visit to a psychiatrist is not quite an ordinary event for a person with a Russian mentality. In most cases, a person goes to such a doctor only when necessary, for example, for a certificate necessary for work. To show your good side, behave in a normal way, calmly and truthfully answer questions, and do not make inappropriate jokes.
Compatriots usually go to a psychiatrist for two reasons: if they are worried about mental health or this doctor must go through free of charge to obtain one or another certificate. In the first case, it is hardly worth being cunning and one should surrender to the hands of a specialist in order to get the necessary help. In the second, oddly enough, with complete spontaneity and openness, you can be left without the desired job or without a driver's license. How to avoid such a danger and not succumb to provocation?
Open questions
When talking to a psychiatrist, everything is important, starting with your appearance. Psychiatrists divide their questions into open and closed. Open-ended questions are the usual introductory questions about your age, place of residence, education, neighbors, friends, weather. They should be answered clearly and preferably in monosyllables. Asking open-ended questions, the psychiatrist does not so much delve into your answers as looks at your reaction, the manner of speaking. It is important for them whether you are verbose, horny or aggressive, etc. Of course, in this case, the proverb is more relevant than ever: "Silence is gold." Of course, one should not be completely silent. It is necessary to limit ourselves to the answers "Yes", "No", "Perhaps" and only to the point, etc.
The main rule is that at a psychiatrist's appointment it is better to be calm and sociable than disheveled and wordy!
Closed questions. Provocation
By asking the so-called closed questions, the psychiatrist is no longer only observing your facial expressions, reactions and emotional background, but is trying to understand your psyche, provoke emotions and actions. The well-known questions "How a light bulb differs from the sun" or "The difference between a bird and an airplane" will help you understand your mental abilities.
The method of "slow-witted" is also often used. That is, the doctor, portraying lack of understanding, asks the same question several times or asks again, thereby trying to unbalance the person or catch him in a lie.
When answering closed-ended provocative questions, it is best to observe the "golden mean".
You shouldn't be frank and indulge in long stories, just as you shouldn't shut yourself up and just keep silent.
The question of suicidal thoughts can also be attributed to provocative questions. It is certainly better when they are not. Again, when answering, do not forget that you can be caught by asking the same question a second time. To prevent this from happening, it is better not to lie, or at least remember your answers.
