Flying with a child for parents usually turns into unnecessary trouble. Discounts on tickets for toddlers range from 20 to 90%, so you can save a lot when traveling with a child. However, you need to know how to correctly issue a child ticket, what documents will be needed for this.
Children receive discounts when buying a plane ticket. Parents purchase a so-called "child ticket", which entitles the child to occupy a separate seat during the flight or to be in the hands of the parents. The law does not establish the exact percentage of discounts on children's tickets, so different airlines have their own. Russian airlines usually provide up to 50% discounts on children's tickets with a separate seat, foreign ones - from 20 to 30% of the total ticket price.
Children's ticket "no seat"
This type of ticket is purchased for a child under 2 years old who does not occupy a separate seat. Parents can purchase it for only 10% of the cost of a regular ticket, and often with a 100% discount, that is, free. However, the "zero" ticket itself must be in hand; without it, the child may not be allowed on the plane. Such a ticket is issued only for one child of one adult, that is, one parent cannot take two children with him in his arms with a “zero” ticket. If one parent carries two children under 2 years old, a child ticket with a seat is issued for the second child.
Children's ticket "with a seat"
Such a ticket gives the right to fly on an airplane for a child from 2 to 12 years old with a discount of up to 50%. In this case, the child takes a separate place just like any adult. This ticket discount is valid for a child traveling with any adult. If the child needs to be sent alone, the ticket price for him will be full. In addition, when buying a ticket, parents may be required to order a special service "accompanying a child on an airplane", as well as require contacts of accompanying and meeting adults. Children over the age of 5 are allowed to travel independently in Russia. If the child needs to fly abroad alone, it is necessary to clarify the data on such permits with the foreign airline whose services are to be used.
Documents for the child
To issue a ticket for flights within Russia for a child, you must have a birth certificate with you. For overseas flights - the passport for the baby or the passport of the parents, in which the child is entered. If the child is traveling with only one parent, it is advisable for him to have with him a notarized permission from the other parent to transport the child. This is optional, but in some countries it may be required and in the absence of a document, the child is not allowed on board or released from the airport. Therefore, it is better to find out the need for such a document in advance for each specific country, or simply issue it before the flight. If a child is traveling alone or with relatives, then he is required to have such permission from both parents.
When issuing a child ticket on the website or at the airline's office, be sure to indicate the age of the child, otherwise the ticket for a small passenger will be issued as for an adult, with full payment.
