Step 1
Make reading a family activity. Choose new books with your children in the store or online and read them in the evenings. Start with short stories and books with poetry, and when the child is ready to take in the information in parts, move on to long books that can be read for weeks and months. Maintain this tradition even when he learns to read himself.

After each story or chapter, pause and discuss what you read. Ask the child how he understood why the characters acted in a certain way, what he thinks they can do next. Choose new books with your children. Sign up for a children's library, go to a bookstore together, or find interesting books in online stores. Show the children that there are many book activities. In stores, meetings with authors and book presentations are held, in libraries - thematic discussions, on the Internet there are sites where people discuss books they have read, communicate with writers, make their illustrations or fanfiction - literary works based on what they have read.

Encourage children to read using their interests and hobbies. If your son is fond of dinosaurs, buy him encyclopedias about dinosaurs, and when your daughter starts covering the walls with posters with fairies, bring her books and magazines about fairies. Even if children are not fond of anything special, they probably watch movies and cartoons - invite them to read about Harry Potter, Narnia, Winnie the Pooh.
