Parents often face a problem when their child starts to do poorly at school. At the same time, many of them do not know how to motivate the child and what can be done or said to change the situation for the better and make him pay more attention to classes.
Instructions
Step 1
First of all, it is necessary to establish the reason why academic performance has decreased. Have a calm conversation with your child, avoiding censure and lecture. Ask why he doesn't like attending classes and doing his homework, what he doesn't like at school. Ask to show tests or exercise books where the child made mistakes and because of what his grade was lowered.
Step 2
Don't criticize your child and talk about specific things. Praise his accomplishments, even if they are minor. For example, if there are no twos or notes about truancy in his diary. This will give the child confidence that his successes are not ignored, and, perhaps, he will strive to show his best side.
Step 3
In no case do not compare the child with other children and do not say that he is in some way inferior to them. Make it clear that his capabilities are much higher than the results that he shows. Give an example of one of his previous achievements. For example, remind him how well he solved some examples in math or how he was praised by the teacher for writing an essay.
Step 4
Prove to your child that poor grades are simply the result of being behind in the program. Review the results of the tests and checked homework assignments and find all the mistakes together. Ask your child what is most difficult for him and offer to study with him in his spare time to help them learn the material. Come up with a fun activity that will not bore the child, but will become an interesting alternative for him to extra lessons at school.
Step 5
Use your experience to approach your child and let him know that learning is not only good, but also fun. Think back to your high school days and think about what would work for you and what kind of help you would like from your parents. Think about the reasons why you might not want to learn.
