Aspirin is a common antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, and analgesic agent. However, it is forbidden to give it to children under 12 years old, because taking this drug can contribute to the development of severe complications after the flu and colds, hemorrhage and even lead to such a deadly disease as Reye's syndrome.
Instructions
Step 1
Recent studies in the field of medicine have shown that taking aspirin negatively affects the health of an adult, and even more so a child, whose body is especially sensitive to this drug. The acetylsalicylic acid contained in it irritates the walls of the stomach, and at temperature increases the permeability of blood vessels, which can cause hemorrhage into organs and tissues.
Step 2
In children, acetylsalicylic acid can also cause acute hepatic encephalopathy, which leads to damage to the liver and then the nervous system. This disease is called Reye's syndrome. Moreover, it is impossible to find out in advance the child's predisposition to such a disease.
Step 3
Exclude all preparations containing acetylsalicylic acid from the baby's first aid kit. And keep them out of the reach of children.
Step 4
Give your child paracetamol or ibuprofen-based medications, such as nurofen, to lower the temperature. When taking these medications, you can even alternate with each other, but only on the recommendation of a doctor.
Step 5
If they do not help, call an ambulance, which usually gives an injection of analgin, but it is also not very helpful. Use aspirin only as the most extreme measure, when other drugs no longer help, and then carefully monitor the baby's condition.
Step 6
If you notice that your child is vomiting with lethargy while taking this drug, see your doctor right away, as these may be signs of Reye's syndrome. The next symptoms may be moods, aggression, disorientation in space, since the fat accumulated in the organs will exert excessive pressure on the baby's brain, convulsions and even coma. Moreover, the first symptoms of this disease are similar to the symptoms of other diseases. Remember that only timely diagnosis and treatment of Reye's syndrome can save your baby's life.
