Folk recipes are very popular today, and one of them is cleaning the enamel of teeth with soda. Such a simple recipe has been known for several decades, and now some people brush their teeth with baking soda for children. Should I do it?
Soda action
Soda works gently, so any deposits on the teeth are removed in several approaches. Here it should be remembered that tartar and dental plaque are the main provocateurs of caries. The bacteria that make up dental plaque disrupt both the balance of acid and alkali in the oral cavity, which leads to erosion of the enamel, and then to pulps and dentin.
Another feature of soda is the presence of abrasive substances that cleanse the enamel. If you compare baking soda with salt (it is also used to brush your teeth), then baking soda has smoother particles that scratch the enamel much less. This means that baking soda is a safer and more convenient way to clean your teeth.
Lack of method
While the method is very effective, there are several limitations to using baking soda too often.
Frequent attempts to brush your teeth with baking soda lead to thinning of the enamel, which makes the teeth too painful and sensitive to react to anything hot, cold, sweet or sour.
Cracks also appear on the front surface, in which caries can form. It is almost impossible to remove such plaque from microcracks, which leads a person to more frequent brushing of their teeth and greater damage to tooth enamel.
How to brush your teeth with baking soda
Before you start brushing your teeth, there are a few rules to keep in mind:
- The frequency of the procedure is no more than once in 30 days.
- The enamel of the teeth should not be very thin, and the teeth should not painfully tolerate changes in temperature.
Before starting cleaning, you need to dilute the soda with water so that the solution is mushy. In this case, you do not need to pour the solution onto the brush, since then the soda will only scratch the enamel.
Brush your teeth in a circular, gentle motion for a few minutes. After that, the mouth should be thoroughly rinsed. And to eliminate the unpleasant aftertaste, you can rinse your mouth with an herbal or mint mouthwash.
If brushing your teeth with baking soda does not cause any negative feelings, you can try diluting the baking soda with a little lemon juice, rather than water. This will help to better clean your teeth, but you need to brush your teeth with such a solution no more than 1 minute.
Should children brush their teeth with baking soda?
As for children, they should not use baking soda to clean their teeth, as milk teeth are already white and do not need whitening. In addition, baking soda can severely damage the enamel, causing your child's teeth to turn black.
