The child's first attempts to draw a bird may not be entirely successful - it will not always be possible to understand who exactly is depicted by the child's hand. However, you can help your little one by noticing their creative urge. Try to draw a bird with him, along the way explaining the rules for constructing a sketch. Even a minimal amount of knowledge will become an excellent base for independent experiments of a young artist.
Instructions
Step 1
Find pictures of birds of different species on the Internet. Explain to your child that their images are made up of simple geometric shapes. You can print a photo on a printer and draw with a pencil an oval at the base of the body, circles of the head and eyes, a triangle of the beak, halves of a circle instead of wings and an elongated oval or rectangle instead of a tail. Paws can be drawn with straight lines.
Step 2
Try to draw a bird with your child, composing it from such shapes. To make the image look natural, explain how the different parts should fit together. Explain that birds, like humans, have a spine, and draw it in a straight line inside the oval body. Extend this segment beyond it, indicating the neck, and draw a round head to it. By the same principle, consider with the baby the arrangement of the legs, tail, and wings in the drawing.
Step 3
The bird will be recognizable if the proportions of the picture are correct, the same as those of the birds of the breed that you are depicting. Attach a pencil to the photo of the bird. Its end should match the outline of the head. On the opposite side of the head outline, place your finger on the pencil. Keeping your finger on the pencil, transfer it to your torso and count how many small segments fit in the large one. Even if the child cannot keep the exact proportions, he will determine that the head is smaller than the body and the tail is longer than the legs.
Step 4
When the sketch is ready, erase all unnecessary lines. If the bird is multi-colored, draw a pencil outline around the spots that will need to be painted over in different shades. So the child will not get confused while drawing and will not forget to enter a new color.
Step 5
To create a texture that resembles feathers, the felt-tip pens and markers loved by children are well suited. You will need specimens with wide tips. Have your toddler try to draw a line on the draft. One stroke will correspond to one nib. Color the drawing with your child. Show him that the direction of the line should coincide with the location of the feather on the body of the bird. The edges of adjacent strokes may well overlap. For areas with finer nibs, you can use a felt-tip pen with a narrower tip.
Step 6
When the child has mastered this material, you can try to paint the bird with paints. Take gouache and a stiff brush (bristles or synthetics), for example. Here one stroke will also represent one feather, but the image will look lighter and more airy.
