The age at which a child should be taught a watch is purely individual. It all depends on the already existing knowledge and ability to read and count. Usually, a child easily learns the features of a watch dial by the age of five, when he realizes that time can be measured.
Instructions
Step 1
You should start by learning the numbers and their temporary meaning. To do this, refer to the simplest game tasks for arranging numbers on magnets, for drawing a clock in a coloring, for drawing up a puzzle-dial. Tell your child about time and calendar riddles. An impromptu dial can be molded from plasticine or glued from cardboard. Make or buy a watch with movable hands and large numbers. Hang in a conspicuous place in the nursery and periodically draw the child's attention to them by pointing the arrow towards a certain number during getting up, breakfast, lunch or going to bed.
Step 2
Without delaying for a long time, explain to the child the types of hands, tell what hours, minutes and seconds are. Try to do it figuratively, visually. Start with the concept of "hour". Say that each day has an equal number of hours, that the hour hand makes two circles per day, and the minute hand makes one revolution per hour, etc. When communicating with the child, pronounce the start and end times of the lesson, visually show this time on a toy and a real clock. The child must understand that all three hands are interconnected: when the minute hand goes around the circle, the hour hand moves only one division. The child will follow the movement of the arrows, learning the relationship of their movement. Do not rush him, it may take a little person a few days or months to start navigating in time.
Step 3
For a complete understanding, introduce your child to the different types of watches and dials. Explain that some of them have missing numbers and sometimes all of them are missing. But this does not change the passage of time and the meaning of the directions of the arrows. Only after that should you proceed to learning how to use a watch with electronic numbers.
