The most active growth occurs in the first year of a child's life; in a year, the baby grows by 20-25 centimeters. Further, the young body grows less actively, but despite this, it is necessary to constantly measure the growth of the child. This will help prevent serious diseases and the development of various pathologies.
Instructions
Step 1
A horizontal stadiometer is used to measure the height of an infant. This is a board about 40 cm wide, on which a scale of 80 cm is located. Such a simple device can be made independently and without waiting for a medical examination to measure the growth of the baby at home. Just place the baby on the height gauge, fix the head, straighten the baby's legs and mark the height. The error in this measurement is small, about 0.5 cm. Also, the growth of the baby can be measured using a simple centimeter tape. Fix the tape, put the baby's head against the wall, ask someone to support the baby's head, straighten the legs, put a ruler or a book on the feet and take a note. Such measurements need to be made only when the baby is calm and fed.
Step 2
For older children, a vertical height meter is used. Currently, there are many models of such height meters: there are wooden and plastic, simple and electronic. But usually they are used only in medical institutions. It makes no sense to buy such a device home. A paper stadiometer can be made to measure the child. Glue a long strip of paper, mark the scale on it. You can buy such a simple invention in a store. Glue the finished ruler to the wall in the nursery. Place the child with his back to the height meter, ask him to press his heels against the wall and straighten his back. Attach the book to the child's head perpendicular to the stadiometer, make a note.
Step 3
Probably, many remember how they were measured at home in childhood. This is the simplest and most affordable way that does not require any special devices and inventions. Place the child against the doorframe, ask them to firmly press their heels against the wall. Make sure that the child is standing correctly - three points of the child's body should touch the wall: heels, buttocks and shoulder blades. Place any flat object on top of your head and jot down notes on the jamb. Then simply measure the resulting distance with a centimeter tape or tape measure.
