At the first signs of acute respiratory viral infections, many mothers begin to use anti-cold drugs to treat their baby, without thinking that a common runny nose and high fever can hide serious diseases.
Meningitis
The most dangerous disease during which the lining of the brain becomes inflamed. Meningitis can manifest itself as a cold, which is confusing to parents. Symptoms of this disease can occur in a different sequence: headache, nausea, high fever, rash, cramps, muscle pain, vomiting, very cold hands and feet. If there are warning signs of the disease, you should immediately call an ambulance.
Whooping cough
No less insidious than meningitis. You can catch it in public places, the disease is transmitted by airborne droplets. The disease is dangerous because the cells of the respiratory tract are damaged, a dry and prolonged cough begins, which may end with vomiting.
Croup
This disease develops due to an infectious and inflammatory process occurring in the larynx. The disease most often affects children from 6 months to 4 years old and is manifested by a sharp cough, accompanied by wheezing at night and in the early morning. If there are suspicions of croup, you need to immediately call an ambulance, and place the child in a very humid room (for example, in a bathroom with hot water turned on).
Measles
As a rule, the disease is accompanied by headache, severe runny nose, rash on the mucous membrane of the palate, cough, spots on the mucous membrane of the cheeks and conjunctivitis. It can be difficult to recognize measles in the early days, but at the first symptoms, you should immediately consult a doctor for appropriate treatment.
Rubella
Before a rash appears on the skin, the condition may present with a sore throat, severe runny nose, and fever. If measles is suspected, the child should be isolated immediately and referred to a pediatrician for treatment. Contact with a sick measles is especially dangerous for pregnant women.
Chicken pox
It begins with general malaise and sore throat, later a rash appears, turning into bubbles, which gradually dry out, forming crusts. The skin begins to itch, but you cannot comb and remove the crusts. There is usually no specific treatment, but you can relieve unpleasant symptoms with treatments prescribed by your doctor.
