Step 1

Making mashed potatoes for a baby is not at all difficult. It is important to choose which vegetable or fruit you want to start complementary foods with. The Ministry of Health and the Institute of Nutrition of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences advise to start feeding babies no earlier than 6 months. The exception is children who are bottle-fed from birth. Such babies are introduced to mashed potatoes and cereals earlier, from 4-5 months.

Step 2

The ideal first puree for an infant is squash, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, pumpkin. Later, from 7-8 months, mashed potatoes and green peas are introduced - these vegetables contain starch, which is poorly digested by small children. Most importantly, to start feeding, you need to choose one vegetable or fruit.

Step 3

For mashed potatoes, use ripe, fresh vegetables with whole skins. It is best if these are vegetables grown in their own garden. Wash them thoroughly and peel them. For the first time, 150 g of vegetables will be enough.

Step 4

Cut the squash and other vegetables into large cubes, and divide the cauliflower and broccoli into small florets. Take a small saucepan and cover the vegetables with baby water. The water should barely cover the vegetables.

Step 5

Cook vegetables over low heat with the lid closed until soft. Do not overcook vegetables, as this may impair their taste. You can cook the vegetables for puree in a double boiler for 10-15 minutes. Do not add salt to the vegetables, this is not necessary.

Step 6

Grind hot cooked vegetables with a blender until smooth. You can rub them through a sieve, as our mothers did. Sometimes a little breast milk, milk formula, a drop of vegetable oil are added to the finished puree for a more delicate taste.

Step 7

Fruit puree is made from fresh or cooked fruit. Be sure to peel the fruit and peel the core thoroughly. Try to teach your little one to the natural taste of fruits, and not add sugar to the puree, which can cause allergies.

Step 8

If your toddler doesn't eat vegetables well, try mashed fruit and vegetables. Combinations of apple and zucchini, apple and pumpkin, apple and carrot have an interesting taste.

Step 9

You can store fresh ready-made puree in the refrigerator, in a hermetically sealed sterile jar, for 24 hours. Do not reheat mashed potatoes that the baby has not eaten, germs could get into it.
