Sometimes one intercourse is enough for fertilization. At the same time, some couples may unsuccessfully try to conceive a child for years. The fertilization process is influenced by a variety of reasons.

Fertilization is a complex physiological process that can only occur during ovulation. A ripe egg cell does not live long - only a few hours, the sperm cell is much more hardy in this respect. There have been cases when fertilization took place a week after intercourse, but often a married couple cannot wait for conception for a long time, even several years. Then you have to find out why fertilization does not occur. All reasons can be divided into three groups: problems of the female reproductive system, problems of the male reproductive system and immunological incompatibility of partners. Fertilization is impossible if a woman does not ovulate in the menstrual cycle, that is, an egg is not formed, or cannot leave the ovary, for example, due to inflammation of its wall. Menstrual irregularities are often associated with stress, hormonal imbalance, insufficient, or, conversely, overweight, illness. Also, the egg can connect with the sperm, but not get into the uterine cavity due to obstruction of the fallopian tubes or a violation of their contractile activity. In the latter case, an ectopic pregnancy often develops. Problems with the male reproductive system are easier to detect but harder to cure. Spermatozoa must be mobile, tenacious, there must be a sufficient number of them. If half or less of them are active, then infertility is diagnosed. But the reasons for this quality of sperm are difficult to establish. In addition, fertilization may not occur due to a man's ejaculation disorder. It happens that a married couple is healthy, but she cannot conceive a baby. This is because the partners are immunologically incompatible. The woman's body does not accept the sperm of a particular man, producing special antibodies against it. Sperm die before reaching the uterus. The reasons for this phenomenon are unknown.
