By twenty weeks of pregnancy, most expectant mothers begin to feel fetal movements. His movements are not only a wonderful reminder to a woman of imminent motherhood, but also can tell how the baby is feeling.
Baby movements: norms
It is recommended to track the frequency of baby movements from 28-30 weeks of pregnancy. The movements of the fetus include not only kicks, but also rolling, light jolts. The kid can be active for a long time, or he can calm down for several hours, but at least ten episodes of movements per day are considered the norm.
The child moves a little: reasons
The woman may notice that the baby has begun to move less in the stomach. This is especially true in the middle of pregnancy, when movements are not always felt equally strongly. The baby can move less when the mother is active. When walking, her smooth movements produce the effect of motion sickness and lull the child. The baby usually calms down two to three weeks before giving birth, this is due to the fact that there is practically no room left for him to move, he saves strength before giving birth.
What if the child moves a little?
Scientists believe that the fetus begins to move more often when it lacks oxygen. However, a sign of severe hypoxia is lack of movement for a long time. If, after 28 weeks, the child has little movement or does not make itself felt for 12 hours, you should immediately consult a doctor.
The specialist should not just listen to the heart with a stethoscope, but also conduct a cardiotocography (CTG). During this procedure, the fetal heartbeat is recorded for half an hour. The heart rate should vary from an average of 120 to 170 beats per minute, depending on the activity level of the baby, increasing as you move. Monotony of heart contractions, a rarer heartbeat may be a sign of severe hypoxia and require immediate delivery.
