It is believed that modern children are distinguished by early development, they have a lively speech, many come to school already reading. However, there are times when the child is noticeably lagging behind: he reads syllables for too long. Syllabic reading is exhausting: a lot of time and effort is spent on it, but understanding does not occur. The child cannot trace the cause-and-effect relationship, the integrity of the perception of the text is lacking, memorization suffers.

Step 1
One of the reasons for the lack of formation of the skill of coherent reading is the sound-letter principle of teaching, which fixes on the formal side of the reading process. With a low level of concentration at the end of the sentence, the child forgets the beginning. Some have a narrow field of vision, it does not cover several words in a row or even the whole word. Some children are accustomed to pronouncing what they read and only under this condition will they recognize the words. Poor vocabulary greatly reduces the number of recognizable words. Finally, reading without a goal does not mobilize the child's mental abilities. The optimal reading speed is at the rate of speech, 120-150 words per minute. A student who reads poorly is included in the list of unsuccessful students. He forms a negative attitude towards learning, he experiences stress, realizing that he is weaker than others, his self-esteem decreases. If the situation is warmed up by adults, the condition is aggravated, this can lead to psychological and physiological problems.
Step 2
Involve him in the reading process without being forced: when you read to him, stop at the most interesting place, tell him that you are tired, and ask him to read a little himself. Ask questions about the plot, explain unfamiliar words. Let these home workouts be short-lived (10-15 minutes), but repeat regularly. Make reading a necessity: leave notes with valuable information that he will inevitably read.
Watch filmstrips: short captions to frames, random changes will help you read at a convenient pace. Engage in parallel reading: you read the text aloud, and the child follows you silently, following the text with his finger. So he will check himself, without worrying about how he will be evaluated from the outside.
Play word games - this will replenish the child's vocabulary, help you quickly navigate when searching for the right words. Think up control questions in the text for each other: in order to come up with a question for you on the content, the little reader will have to work hard to comprehend what he read.
Step 3
Defectologists also offer exercises for the development of the speech apparatus: articulation of vowels, consonants and their combinations, this is especially useful if there are diction disorders. You can sing vowels, read tongue twisters and phrases. If you notice that the child pronounces some sounds incorrectly, do not insist that he utter this sound in the exercises, contact a speech therapist who will professionally solve the problem. In addition, teachers and psychologists advise to train visual memory (memorizing and comparing pictures, the game “What's missing from the table?”, memorizing letters, syllables, words on cards). Reading words with missing letters: the child is presented with words from one semantic group (for example, animals) with missing letters. He must recognize these words, read them and say what it is all called in one word. You can write letters at random, put numbers under them: based on the numbers, the child will arrange the letters in the right order and recognize the words. For example:
O A K S B A
2 4 5 1 3 6 Visual dictations are constantly used in the classroom in primary school. The teacher writes down a sentence of 2-3 words on the blackboard, for some time the children read and memorize it. Then the sentence is removed from the eyes, it must be written down from memory. This takes into account the literacy of writing.
