Young parents are most worried about the health of a newborn baby, because he cannot tell what he feels - hunger, pain or discomfort. They are especially worried when feeding a baby with milk formula, to which children are often allergic. An allergic reaction can be recognized by a number of external manifestations.
Allergy or not?
Basically, the first symptoms of formula milk allergy appear in infants at 2-3 months - however, this is not an indicator, since the reaction can occur at any age. Therefore, a runny nose or skin rash in a baby who has not yet entered the "allergic age" cannot be ignored. An allergy can be recognized by repeated regurgitation with a mixture or air after feeding - a child can regurgitate up to 5-7 times, followed by severe hiccups.
With the ability to diagnose allergies in infants, parents can promptly contact a pediatrician who will prescribe the correct treatment and mixture.
In the presence of regurgitation and hiccups, you need to make sure that the nipple of the bottle is appropriate for the baby's age, and the hole in it is not too large, since air will enter the baby's stomach through it. If, when these requirements are met, regurgitation does not decrease, most likely the milk formula is causing an allergic reaction. It can be confirmed by digestive problems - often an allergy to this product provokes the development of diarrhea or constipation, accompanied by bloating and severe intestinal colic, even with normal stools.
Allergy symptoms
If you are allergic to the mixture, respiratory symptoms such as cough and runny nose appear, in which clear mucus is released. At the same time, the child's body temperature remains normal. Since the respiratory system of newborns cannot yet independently cope with a large amount of mucus that appears in the nose or bronchi during an allergic reaction, it must be constantly monitored and consulted with a doctor.
However, respiratory symptoms of formula allergy in newborns are quite rare and, rather, are the exception than the rule.
Skin symptoms caused by an allergic reaction to formula milk are rashes and redness on the baby's skin. Most often, these signs appear on the cheekbones, cheeks, forearms, buttocks, and abdomen. If you carefully observe the behavior of the baby, you can notice that he is trying to comb the rash that gives him discomfort, and also shows anxiety and moodiness for no apparent reason. Typically, allergic skin symptoms on the skin of infants are scaly areas that feel dry and rough when touched. In such cases, it is categorically not recommended to apply emollient lotions or baby creams to irritations - they contain substances that can increase allergic manifestations.
