Experts believe that carrying a baby in your arms is a continuation of the period of carrying it in the womb. This process is no less important for the baby - the formation of posture, the development of the hip joints, neuromuscular and skeletal systems depend on the correctness of his position on the hands.
Instructions
Step 1
Babies have two so-called risk zones - the neck and the lower back. Therefore, when picking up a child in your arms, remember two basic rules - always support the baby's head and neck, at least until he begins to hold the head himself. And in an upright position, provide even support for the entire spine - the child's weight should not fall on the lumbosacral region.
Step 2
The most common way to carry a newborn is called a cradle. Place your baby with the back of your head on the elbow of your arm. Use the palm of the same hand to support the ass. This is the most comfortable position for breastfeeding. You can also support your baby with your other hand. But if household chores are urgent, you should be able to carry your newborn on one hand - as long as it doesn't weigh too much. Please note that when worn on one hand, your hand does not support the baby's bottom, but holds him by the thigh.
Step 3
If a newborn is suffering from colic, experienced mothers are advised to wear it with the tummy down. This type of carrying a baby is also useful from a developmental point of view - babies get used to looking mainly "at the ceiling", with a change in posture, his view of the world around him will also change. In this position, the baby lies with his stomach on your hand, and his cheek should take place on your elbow. In this case, the back of the child is pressed against your belly. Pass your other hand between the legs and press your palm against the baby's tummy. Its warmth will help relieve colic.
Step 4
In the "column" position - the baby's head lies on your collarbone, the tummy is pressed against your chest. Holding the body with your forearm, and the baby's neck with your palm, you press it to you. Despite the upright position of the newborn, in this position you will be able to provide him with even support of the spine. It is also possible to carry the newborn in a "post" with both hands. At the same time, his legs in the "frog" position will embrace you, and the crown of his head will rest against your chin.
