Many parents are faced with a situation where a child screams at night. Most often, this behavior is characteristic of children with increased excitability, thus reacting to the events of the past day. A cry can be accompanied by tears and there can be several reasons for this behavior.

At an early age, children cannot explain in words what specifically worries them. Therefore, screaming is a form of communication with parents. This is how the child can communicate that he is hungry, uncomfortable, or in pain. Without annoying factors, there will be no screaming. As you get older, the child screams at night due to the fact that he begins to have restless dreams. Sensitive children with a vulnerable psyche are more susceptible to this. The abundance of new information received during the day, as well as violent imagination, often lead to nightmares. Most children of preschool and primary school age go through this, so this behavior is okay. Nightmares are associated with overexcitement, which causes the cerebral cortex to relax longer than usual. It is believed that the child screams at the moment of transition from the deep phase of sleep to the light, since at this moment in the cerebral cortex due to excessive fatigue, excitement occurs simultaneously with relaxation. And this contradiction is causing nightmares. But science has not yet been able to explain the exact reason for them. Sometimes a child screams without waking up. In this case, the parents should not wake him up, the cry will pass as suddenly as it began. In order for the baby to feel protected, it is enough just to hug him and calm him down. In most cases, the next day, children do not remember what happened. It is unlikely that such screams can be completely prevented, but they can be minimized. For this, it is necessary that the time before bedtime passes as calmly as possible, without active games and watching aggressive programs. Since children's fantasy is very rich, it can transform even a harmless fairy tale into a nightmare. Therefore, the choice of books for evening reading must also be approached responsibly.
