There are medical standards approved by the RF Ministry of Health. Based on these benchmarks, you can track whether your child is gaining weight normally. With significant deviations from these standards, it is necessary to make adjustments to his diet.
Underweight or overweight?
Mothers, especially young ones, are jealous of how their baby is gaining weight. And they are seriously worried if it does not reach the desired numbers. There are scientifically based standards approved by the Russian Ministry of Health. Finding out whether a nine-month-old baby meets these standards is very simple: just add another 5.95 kg from his original weight.
Meanwhile, the weight of the child should always be correlated with the height. It is also easy to recognize him: add 20.5 cm to the height at birth. According to the same medical standards, the height of a nine-month-old girl should be about 70 cm, and a boy - 71-71, 5 cm.
About every ten babies out of a hundred have minor deviations in development. Treat this as an individual matter.
There is little difference between the body weight of girls and boys. So, girls should gain 8, 3 kg, and boys - 8, 9 kg. Do not be embarrassed when you see slightly different numbers in different sources. A deviation from them by 6-7% is quite acceptable.
It's another matter if the child's weight is less or more by 20-25%. Then there is a clear underweight or, conversely, an overweight. In this case, it is necessary to make adjustments to the diet.
How to feed a baby
Proper nutrition provides significant weight gain. By the way, by this age, the baby usually has two upper and two lower milk incisors. True, in today's children, teeth are often erupted with a delay. Don't worry, as this is also a kind of norm.
A baby's menu at 9 months can already consist of three dishes: meat, vegetable and fruit. At this time, it is also time to introduce a new complementary food: fish, boiled or steamed. Invite your child to try a new product, only give a tiny portion first.
Cook only one kind of fish for a week, and carefully monitor if the baby has allergies. If you suddenly develop purple spots or a rash, immediately exclude the fish from the menu.
Serve your child's meals warm, but not hot or cold. Add salt and sugar in very small amounts. And no candy! Get used to sweets - then you yourself will be tortured.
Weigh your baby regularly
In order to timely identify errors in nutrition, you need to know how the dynamics of the baby's weight changes. If he suddenly began to lose weight for no particular reason, then there are clearly certain disorders in his body.
When a child's weight exceeds all conceivable norms and his cheeks hang down on his shoulders, this is also an alarming signal. You should not overfeed the baby, otherwise the excess weight will then turn into a heap of health problems.
If the child is gaining weight with a slight advance or does not gain it a little, it's okay. It is worth worrying when sharp changes occur. By the tenth month, the child becomes about 0.5 kg heavier and 1.5 cm higher. The scales should show 8.6 kg for girls and 9.2 kg for boys, and the height gauge should be 71 cm and 72 cm, respectively.
