It is generally accepted that modern children devote more and more time to computer games and the Internet, and less and less to reading. However, with regard to younger students, this statement is very controversial: they read books and magazines with pleasure.
At primary school age, the desire of children to read is caused more by interest than by necessity, that is, they read not only what is provided for in the program, but also what they like. Over time, the incentive will change towards a mandatory bibliography, but in lower grades, children are guided by their own preferences, as well as the advice of parents and friends.
Since, most often, children's introduction to the world of books begins with fairy tales that are read to them aloud, love for them persists in elementary school. But if kids have a priority on fairy tales about animals, then at primary school age they are replaced by fairy tales and instructive everyday ones. Children enjoy reading not only Russians, but also tales of other peoples of Russia and the world, as well as literary tales of Russian and foreign writers (A. S. Pushkin, P. P. Ershov, S. T. Of particular value for children of primary school age are various encyclopedias, including thematic ones, since they contain the necessary amount of information presented in an accessible form. Children's magazines are still relevant: parents subscribe and buy, and children enjoy reading "Funny Pictures", "Murzilka", "Svirel", "Toshka". Periodicals based on cartoons (Winx, Moxie, Princess, Cars, Toy Story, etc.) are very popular. In addition, schoolchildren also show interest in newspapers and magazines for adults: girls follow the life of show business stars and fashion, and boys prefer pages devoted to sports and cars.
