What is a cough

A cough in people of any age is a protective reaction of the body to the secretion of sputum from the nasal mucosa. It can also be a symptom of many diseases commonly referred to as the common cold. These are diseases of the lower and upper respiratory tract, flu or tonsillitis. As well as bronchitis, sinusitis, tonsillitis and sinusitis. Allergies can also be hidden under a cough.

The cough is dry and wet. If a child coughs violently, as well as if coughing attacks occur at night, you need to be alert. These manifestations may indicate incipient whooping cough. A deaf cough can be a harbinger of pneumonia or tuberculosis. The most common in children is a "barking" cough. It can seriously damage the vocal cords. Most likely, this is a sign of a viral disease. A moist cough appears along with the formation of phlegm. This could be a sign of bronchitis or pneumonia.

The first thing to do is see a pediatrician. In no case should you self-medicate. This can make it difficult for the child to diagnose and recover.

How to treat cough in toddlers

Before the arrival of a doctor who will diagnose and provide qualified assistance to the baby, you can independently give the child a light massage. To do this, putting it on your tummy, you need 1-2 minutes to make stroking movements on the back, patting in the lungs. Of course, this must be done with great care.

Especially often, problems with infectious diseases occur in those children who are bottle-fed. If for some reason the baby is deprived of breast milk, special attention should be paid to the prevention of viral diseases.

It is necessary to exclude irritating odors: tobacco smoke, chemicals, etc. Cough also occurs as a reaction to very dry or too warm air. For the prevention of viral diseases and allergic reactions, the following rules must be observed:

- constantly ventilate the room in which the baby is located;

- maintain the optimal temperature in the room, monitor the level of humidity in it;

- do not overheat the child.

If the cough is accompanied by phlegm, the child's diet during the illness should contain as much protein and as little carbohydrates as possible. If the baby refuses to eat, it doesn't matter. His body directed all its forces to fight the disease. In a few days, the child's appetite will return. Then, instead of heavy food, you need to offer him light dishes: jelly or fruit purees.

The main thing is to ensure regular drinking. Fluid doesn't just flush toxins out of the body. It helps to excrete phlegm. Babies need to be given tea, juice, compote. Or just plain water. Do not overuse herbal decoctions. They can cause an allergic reaction and make the disease worse. For the same reason, it is better not to use honey in the treatment. In the first year of life, drugs that include camphor are also contraindicated for children.
