Even 15-20 years ago, the need to swaddle a newborn was not in doubt. This was taught in maternity hospitals and in special courses, and experienced mothers would probably be outraged if they were asked to give up diapers. Currently, the situation has changed: old traditions are becoming a thing of the past and provoke a lot of controversy.

Instructions
Step 1
Evaluate all the arguments for swaddling. Many of them today seem, without exaggeration, absurd. For example, it used to be thought that swaddling tightly would straighten the legs. Of course, the shape of the legs has nothing to do with diapers: prevention and timely treatment of rickets, massages, gymnastics and the right shoes will help your child grow up healthy and with straight legs.
In addition, the older generation believed that a baby in diapers sleeps better. In fact, sleeping in one position without the ability to move is not physiological even for a newborn. The kid can scream only from the fact that he is uncomfortable and painful. Swaddling for restful sleep is justified only in some cases, for example, if the child is too restless or has certain neurological conditions. But even in such a situation, you can do without diapers (after all, swaddling a baby correctly is not the easiest task for a young mother), and give preference to alternative methods.
Step 2
Look out for new items for newborns, which serve as a great alternative to swaddling. For example, special sleeping bags. In them, the baby will feel cozy and comfortable, while having some ability to move inside the thing. Sleeping envelopes can be open or closed: choose the one in which the baby is most warm at a given time of the year.
elastic cocoon envelopes are very popular in the West. They restrain the baby's movements rather tightly, but much softer compared to normal diapers. The baby is wrapped in a cocoon together with his hands, and already inside he himself takes the most comfortable position for himself.
Step 3
Try dressing your child in soft, comfortable pajamas or overalls in the first days of life. Make sure that the baby does not rub or crush anywhere. To prevent him from scratching himself in a dream with his hands, use special mittens. Place the baby on its side, place a soft roller under the back and cover with a light blanket. If the child is comfortable, he will sleep in this position, with his arms folded in front of him. Later, when you start putting the baby on its back, it will raise its arms up and spread its legs to the sides. Observe the baby for a few days. If he sleeps soundly enough, rarely flinches, changes his body position slightly, then he does not need swaddling at all.
