After the state reform related to paperwork, it is no longer enough to be born on the territory of Russia to become a citizen. Now, both Russians and foreigners must complete certain documents in order to obtain citizenship by a child. How do you need to act for this?

- - birth certificate of the child;
- - permission from a foreign parent.
Instructions
Step 1
Find the coordinates of your department of the Federal Migration Service (FMS) at your place of residence. To do this, go to the FMS website, on the main page, follow the link "Interactive map of the FMS of Russia". You will see a map of the regions. Find yours, hover over it, and you will see the address and phone number of your FMS department.
Step 2
Come to the FMS, taking with you the birth certificate of the child and the passports of both parents. On the basis of these data, the FMS officer on the same day will put a special seal on the birth certificate, which will certify citizenship.
Step 3
If the child was born to Russian citizens, but in another country, then you must contact the Russian consulate. A birth certificate with a stamp of citizenship will be issued there. If the certificate has already been issued with the local registration authorities, then the new consulate will not issue, but will issue a document confirming the Russian citizenship of the child.
Step 4
For those children whose only one parent has Russian citizenship, the procedure is somewhat different. A written consent of a parent with another citizenship for the child's adoption of Russian citizenship, a marriage certificate of the parents (if any), as well as a birth certificate is required. Documents can be submitted to the consulate if you are abroad, or to the FMS.
Step 5
Also, Russian citizenship can be obtained by children of foreign citizens born in Russia, and according to the law of the country of origin they are not entitled to its citizenship. In this case, the FMS must provide documents confirming the fact that the child cannot have any other citizenship, except for Russian.
