Cold is not a hindrance to real romantics. On frosty winter days, you must definitely please your loved ones with fresh flowers. But how to bring flowers in frost so that their beauty does not fade?
There are several simple ways to protect flowers from frost:
wrapping paper. Wrap the bouquet in at least three layers of paper. It is imperative that the paper is dry. Newspapers will do, too.
- wool. This material allows not only to keep warm, but also allows flowers to "breathe". The bouquet can be wrapped in a woolen scarf, shawl or piece of felt.
- packing film with bubbles. You can also pack flowers in it. But keeping a bouquet in it for a long time is not recommended. Condensation forms quickly in such packaging.
It is best to make several layers this way: paper / wool, then foil, again wool or paper, and on top of the bag - additional protection from rain and snow.
A prerequisite for preserving flowers in frost is wet flowers, leaves and stems. You cannot leave moisture at the roots, it is also risky to transfer flowers in test tubes with water in the frost. Before taking the bouquet out of the store, check for moisture. It is better to wrap the stem in paper, foil or any dry cloth.
Do not rush to put the flowers in the water when you bring them in from the frost until they are warmed up. Place them on the table for 10 minutes, then touch the flowers and stems. If they are not cold, you can put the bouquet in a vase of water. It is best to keep the water cold or at room temperature. Warm water will contrast too much with the outside temperature.
Frost is stressful for a plant, but we can preserve the beauty of flowers if we treat them with attention and care.
