The crib barrier is designed to ensure the safety of the baby both during his sleep and during the waking period. This restraint should be easily lowered, allowing direct access to the child. There is a method of making a "soft" side of fabric and foam rubber.
The barrier for a baby bed must be safe for the baby: the wood is covered with an environmentally friendly varnish, the side mounts are hidden under the mattress, the slats are streamlined, the fabric is pleasant to the touch and easy to wash. It is easier to make a "soft" barrier with your own hands. It is more convenient for both parents and the baby: it attaches to the slats with Velcro, protects against drafts and sunlight.
What is needed to make a barrier for a baby bed?
For sewing a "soft" side, first of all, you need to choose a fabric. It should be non-marking, non-slip, easy to clean, and have beautiful colors. To make a barrier with a length corresponding to the perimeter of the bed, on average, you will need 5-5.5 m of fabric with a width of 110 cm. Before starting cutting, the material must be washed so that it “sat down”. In addition to the fabric, you will need 1-2 cm thick foam rubber and zipper locks of the required length.
How to make a barrier for a baby bed?
The pattern is made according to the measurements taken from the bed. Record the length and height of the desired side on a piece of paper. Draw a rectangle of the appropriate size. Allowances for the seams (0.8-1 cm) and for the thickness of the foam liner are noted.
Further, in accordance with the drawing, a paper pattern is made. But for those who have the skills of sewing and cutting, this is not necessary: you can immediately start transferring the sketch to the material. The side should be a removable fabric cover and a foam liner. The "soft" barrier can be decorated with lace ribbons or ruffles.
The cover is sewn from two rectangular sheets of fabric, stacked face-to-face. If frills are provided, a strip of fabric or tape is inserted between the fabrics and hand-swept with stitches. Next, they sew on a sewing machine and take out the more unnecessary basting thread. The canvases are stitched on three sides, leaving the fourth for the "lightning".
When the cover is ready, they start making the foam liner. To do this, draw a rectangle on it with a thin felt-tip pen, reducing the size of the pattern by 1-1.5 cm on each side. With the help of scissors, the insert is cut out and the fitting is made, putting a cover on it. If everything is okay, they start sewing the zipper lock. Instead, you can build a button or rivet clasp.
If the side is attached to the bed with Velcro, these parts are glued or sewn in the right places. But another option for fixing the "soft" barrier is possible: with the help of stitches (ribbons). If it is he who is chosen, it is recommended to fasten the strips of fabric at the stage of the seams of the cover. If you don't want to make it removable, you can make a beautiful side made of foam rubber sheathed with fabric with stitching in the form of diamonds, squares, patterns. When using a thread of a contrasting color, the product will look more stylish and elegant.
