The first specialist that the child must visit is the local pediatrician. The doctor will record physical indicators: height, weight, pressure; check the availability of all vaccinations necessary for this age; will issue referrals for analyzes and visits to narrow specialists; will write a conclusion on the results of the medical examination.
The list of necessary studies and tests has become somewhat wider than that adopted 3-4 years ago: the child must pass a general blood test and an analysis to check glucose levels, a general urine test, an analysis of feces for worm eggs and scraping for enterobiasis, undergo electrocardiography, an ultrasound examination of the abdominal cavity, thyroid gland, pelvic organs and heart.
Visiting narrow specialists
In addition to laboratory and diagnostic tests, a child before school must receive conclusions on the state of health from narrow-profile specialists.
The surgeon examines the child for tumors, inguinal and umbilical hernias. In boys, the doctor checks the development of the genitals and identifies possible deviations: cryptorchidism, phimosis, etc.
A visit to a gynecologist has recently become a must for girls. The medical examination by this specialist is more of a preventive nature and is carried out without the use of viewing instruments, by visually identifying possible deviations in the development of the genitals.
The ophthalmologist determines the visual acuity of the child and fixes possible pathologies, gives recommendations on the optimal distance from the desk to the blackboard, taking into account the visual characteristics of the student.
The orthopedist will identify violations of the child's posture and possible problems with his musculoskeletal system: flat feet, curvature of the spine, etc.
A neurologist examines the characteristics of the student's nervous system, checks reflexes, coordination, muscle tone and psychomotor skills in his response to external stimuli.
The otolaryngologist detects the child's tendency to diseases of the ear, throat, nose, and checks his hearing.
The dentist will check the correctness of the bite and hyoid ligament formation, the general condition of the teeth, and will identify the incipient caries.
Based on the results of the examination by narrow specialists, the pediatrician can prescribe additional examinations by a psychologist, cardiologist, speech therapist, endocrinologist.
