Modern children don't like to read. They are so reluctant to learn to read that they lose the skill of coherent speech and literate writing. Computers, games and television are partly to blame. But do not blame modern gadgets for all the problems. Adults are also responsible for this.
Talk to your child about what you read
Develop a love of reading in your child even before he has learned the letters. Read books to your baby, discuss interesting points, compose options for the development of the plot.
The right materials
Choose literature that is interesting for your child. If he loves zombies or aliens, find the right book. Perhaps such books will seem stupid to you, but the child's interests will change, and the love of reading will remain.
Encourage reading
Let the child read the cafe menu, street names, movie posters, product names. Encourage these actions. Then the child will understand how important reading skill is for life.
Modern gadgets
Many people think that tablets and computers are direct competitors and opponents of books. In fact, you can teach your child how to use reading programs or give your child a simple e-book.
Personal example
No motivators, rewards and rewards will work on a child if he does not see a personal example. Pick up the book more often, love reading yourself. Then your kid will also become an avid reader.
Use movies for your own purposes
It is known that many modern film adaptations are based on famous works. Often, screenwriters change the original source, remove the similarities of this or that moment. If your child likes the film adaptation, tell him that there is such a book. The child may want to know the original story.
Pleasure
Don't force your child to read what they don't like. Let him understand that books are a pleasure and a reward. Otherwise, the kid will consider books a dull duty, and in the worst case, perceive them as punishment.
Recommendations for parents:
- instill in your child a love of reading from early childhood;
- give your child books with bright cover and exciting content;
- read your child more often to teach him to pick up the book and introduce him to reading;
- Let the child read aloud for at least 10-15 minutes every day;
- Praise your child for showing interest in reading;
- ask the child about what he read, you can arrange a family discussion;
- when reading to a child, stop at the most interesting place;
- ask the child if the child liked the book, which characters were interested, which ones pushed away;
- ask your child to talk about interesting characters;
- Deliberately distort the plot, let the child correct you. So you will understand whether the kid is following the plot, whether he remembers what he heard;
- let the child talk about an interesting event from the book, highlight the expressions that he remembered, tell what this book teaches;
- If the child cannot express his thoughts orally, let him draw a picture of the plot.
