Probiotics are used to treat dysbiosis, colitis, and gastrointestinal disorders. They contain lactobacilli, bifidobacteria, which contribute to the normalization of intestinal microflora.

Probiotics are live microorganisms that, when used correctly, have a beneficial effect on the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract. They have been used since the 30s of the last century and contain lactobacilli and bifidobacteria. They are actively added to mixtures, cereals and other baby food products. Probiotics are used in both liquid and dry form. In the first case, the funds contain not only active microorganisms and their metabolic products, but also a nutrient medium for them.

Indications for the use of probiotics

Probiotics can be used for both prevention and treatment of diseases of various pathogenesis. Preventive use helps to avoid the occurrence of most gastrointestinal disorders in children that are not associated with infection, forms microflora, strengthens the immune system, and reduces the manifestation of allergic reactions and dermatitis. Medicines of this group are also used after antibiotic therapy, since they allow to restore a healthy microflora. Sometimes they are prescribed to newborn children during the formation of normobiasis in the digestive tract. For this purpose, a smaller dose is used than for treatment.

Probiotic treatment is necessarily included in the treatment regimen:

- if the child has an acute intestinal infection or dysfunction;

- there is a burdened background, for example, rickets, anemia, hypotrophy;

- with pustular lesions;

- if there are hereditary metabolic diseases;

- with flatulence.

Effectiveness of using probiotics

In the media, you can find information that the effectiveness of using products containing lacto- and bifidobacteria for children is very doubtful. However, studies have been conducted that have proven that probiotics are effective for irritable bowel syndrome in children, with dysbiosis. Given the fact that dysbiotic disorders are most often observed against the background of atopic dermatitis and infant colic, living microorganisms can completely or partially get rid of the manifestations of the disorders.

According to studies conducted on the basis of the Belarusian State University, the use of probiotics leads to a gradual and persistent relief of pain in children and contributes to the normalization of stool frequency. Thanks to drugs that contain bifidobacteria and lactobacilli, the severity of diarrhea of various origins, enteritis, and disorders of the enzymatic function of the digestive tract is reduced.
