If one of the partners is found to have gonorrhea, all types of sexual intercourse are excluded for the duration of treatment, since even with the most harmless oral sex there is a risk of contracting sexually transmitted diseases. The other half should also be examined and cured, if necessary, and in the future, in order to prevent the couple, it is recommended to use flavored condoms.
What is gonorrhea and how does it manifest?
Gonorrhea is a sexually transmitted infection of the genitourinary system caused by gonococci. In women, the disease is expressed by symptoms such as: pain in the lower abdomen and swelling of the external genital organs, irregular menstruation and the appearance of purulent vaginal discharge between periods, fever and pain during urination and intercourse.
Infected men have an increased urge to urinate, it becomes painful and accompanied by a burning sensation. The opening of the urethra turns red and swells, and purulent discharge appears from it. Thus, the signs of gonorrhea in both sexes are practically the same.
Can gonorrhea develop after oral sex?
Oral sex means caressing the partner's genitals and anus with the tongue, lips and mouth. Cunnilingus means oral sex on the female genitals, blowjob - for men.
Some experts recommend that you refuse to brush your teeth before oral sex, as this hygiene procedure can cause abrasions and scratches in the mouth, through which infection is possible.
Its advantages include the impossibility of damaging the hymen in girls and the absence of the risk of getting pregnant. But with oral sex with an unfamiliar partner, there is the same risk of contracting sexually transmitted diseases as with vaginal and anal contact.
This is explained by the fact that in the oral cavity of the active partner there are foreign genital fluids (semen or vaginal discharge), which may contain gonococcus. And you can get infected during oral sex not only with gonorrhea, but also with syphilis, chlamydia, HIV and even hepatitis in all its forms.
Of course, the risk of infection by the oral route is not as great as with other forms of sexual intercourse, but it still exists. If there are cuts and sores on the genitals, mouth, or lips, the risk is increased.
How do you know if gonorrhea was transmitted after blowjob or cunnilingus?
Gonorrhea after oral sex is often asymptomatic and can be detected by special tests.
Genital herpes after oral sex is a cold sore on the lips. Conversely, common colds on the lips can become a source of genital infection.
However, some signs may be expressed in the presence of the following deviations:
- sore throat;
- any pathological changes on the lips or in the mouth;
- signs of hepatitis in the absence of liver problems.
To prevent infection with such an unpleasant and serious disease as gonorrhea, oral sex should be done only with a condom (male or female). Spermicidal lubricants are not used for this purpose.
