A baby in a family is an inexhaustible source of happiness, joy and, of course, anxiety and excitement. Newly made mom and dad are watching every breath of the crumbs. The slightest non-compliance with the norms can cause real panic. So, for example, wheezing in a baby can seriously puzzle the baby's mother.

Adaptation period

In the first months of its existence, a baby is going through a difficult period of adaptation to the surrounding world. Most of the vital processes occurring in the body do not proceed in the same way as in mature adults.

The respiratory, gastrointestinal systems, the principles of heat exchange, and other vital functions of the body are in the stage of development and improvement. This is designed by nature so that the child in a natural way, through a special mode of work of the body, can smoothly and easily adapt to the outside world. Therefore, most of the phenomena that can cause parental anxiety are not pathologies. Rather, it is the norm for the correct development of the baby.

Causes of wheezing in a baby

The occurrence of wheezing in infants can occur due to a number of extraneous factors. First of all, newborns are very sensitive to the climate in the house, namely the quality of the air in the surrounding space. The dust contained in the atmosphere is especially dangerous for babies due to the fact that the nasal passages of such crumbs are physiologically still very narrow. Therefore, dust particles, settling on surfaces, accumulate in the baby's nose, forming crusts. This makes it very difficult for the baby to breathe in and out normally, and he begins to wheeze. In this case, getting rid of the cause of wheezing will not be difficult. It is enough to revise the living conditions and the rules for caring for the child.

The main mistakes that parents make for the good, as it seems to them, of the child, which can just lead to wheezing, are: the regular lack of fresh air by airing the nursery, insufficient walks on the street, high air temperature in the room where the baby is. This is especially true for the parents of babies born in winter.

Observe the child's behavior. If his general condition does not raise questions, the baby eats normally, sleeps well, is not capricious for no apparent reason and he has no temperature, but wheezing is heard during breathing, start by examining the nose. And if crusts are found there, then this is a signal to parents that the conditions for keeping the infant are incorrect and require adjustment. The correct temperature in the nursery should be kept at around 20‒21 degrees, and the humidity level should be at least 50%. If it is not possible to purchase a high-quality humidifier, make it a rule to carry out regular wet cleaning of all surfaces and floors in the room every day. This will help not only avoid wheezing, but also warn against other possible diseases.

If the crusts have already formed, you need to help the baby get rid of them by cleaning the nose. To do this, a moisturizing spray such as Aquamaris should be injected into each nasal passage once, and carefully remove the accumulated cotton turunda.

However, if other alarming symptoms occur, such as fever, general deterioration, continuous crying or coughing, it is imperative to see a doctor. It is the specialist who must establish the true causes of wheezing in the infant and prescribe appropriate treatment, if necessary. In case of a sharp deterioration in the baby's condition, immediately seek help!
