Mumps is transmitted from a sick person by airborne droplets and forms lifelong immunity after an illness. Doctors say that mumps is seasonal and is more common in March and April. It is also noted that boys get mumps one and a half times more often than girls.

Mumps is considered a childhood disease and is more difficult to tolerate in adulthood. Pig is terrible for its complications. If the disease is not treated in time, the virus can enter the blood of a person and provoke diseases of the glandular organs (ovaries, testicles, pancreas). In men, neglected mumps can result in infertility.

Mumps symptoms

Most often, mumps begins with a sharp increase in body temperature up to 38-39 ° C. Concomitant symptoms: headache, weakness, chills.

A distinctive feature of the disease is inflammation of the parotid salivary glands. When you press on them with your fingers, the person experiences pain. Sometimes the glands swell so much that the patient's face becomes pear-shaped, like that of a pig. That is why mumps got the name "mumps".

A child with mumps complains of pain in the neck and ears. It can get worse at night. Tinnitus can also be associated with pain. These symptoms begin to subside after 3-4 days and finally go away after a week. The swelling can last up to two weeks.

How to treat mumps

A sick child must be isolated in a separate room for at least ten days, providing him with bed rest. To reduce the temperature, antipyretic drugs such as Nurofen and Panadol are used.

To prevent intoxication, antihistamines are prescribed, for example, "Suprastin". It is also necessary to adhere to a special diet that excludes fried, spicy, fatty foods, canned food, etc. Give preference to dairy foods.

If chewing is painful for your child, use a blender to grind the food. Make him drink more warm liquid: fruit drinks, teas, rosehip decoction.

For the prevention of mumps, children are vaccinated at the age of more than a year. Thanks to such measures, the incidence of mumps has decreased several times.

If you know about the illness of someone from the environment of the child, stop contact with the patient for at least three weeks. Just in case, do not allow your child to touch the sick person's belongings, such as toys.
