You have finally decided to do it. Write a letter to a friend who has not been seen for a hundred years, or to someone who is waiting for a response from you for about the same amount. The only thing is small: take a pen, an envelope or go to e-mail.

Step 1
The main thing to keep in mind when composing a letter: in your message only talk about what may really interest your friend. And you should also start a letter with this principle in mind.
Step 2
Fill out the envelope so that later in a hurry you do not make blots or mistakes in the spelling of the address or the name of a friend. It is better to specify the subject in the line of the e-mail the one that interests not only you, but also your friend. If you have moved, it makes sense to duplicate the new address in the upper left or right corner of a regular letter, as the envelope may get lost.

If you are going to answer, take a friend's letter (or open a new window with it) and try, if possible, to answer all the questions that were posed in it. If this is not yet possible, ask your friend for some time to think or clarify.
Step 4
Refer to a friend by name. If you have really warm friendly relations with this person, you can start with the address: "Dear …", or even "Beloved …" (without a shade of indecency). Decide whether to use the traditional greeting words, "Hello …", "Hello …", or not. It is important that your writing style is not too different from your "everyday" style of speech, otherwise a friend may suspect you of insincerity or a desire to be sarcastic.
Step 5
Thank your friend for the letter sent or give a reason for contacting him if you have not communicated with him for a long time. Apologize for not writing to him for a long time, and be sure to indicate that you miss him a lot.
Step 6
Do not start your letter right away by listing all the problems and misfortunes that have befallen you during this time. Be sure to ask how your friend is doing first, and make careful guesses about the state of affairs. And only after that, proceed to what you wanted to tell him in the letter.
