In families where there is an age and status hierarchy, there is no question of whose opinion is the main one and who is the head of the family. But there are families with absolutely democratic foundations, in which everyone, regardless of age, has the right to vote.
Very often, those who welcome democracy in family relations will soon see it condescending to liberalism. Modern society, due to the effect of information technology on each of its members, is increasingly faced with the problem of parents' inaction and a decline in the authority of older family members before children.
Very often in such families conflicts arise between representatives of different generations. What is the reason for this?
First, information technology and the widely available media are increasingly popularizing child democracy, which is characterized by allowing people to assert their rights in all situations.
Secondly, parents in today's society adhere to the material direction in the existence of the family. This means that their main goal is to earn money as a means by which the basic needs of children for food, clothing and leisure will be met.
Thirdly, modern society is less and less involved in the life of every family (local government bodies have no right to tell the family what to do and how to do it, as it was in the USSR). And, finally, the world of their rights is more and more open to children, but at the same time they forget about their responsibilities.
What led to such a drop in former priorities and values? What was it done for? Our society is divided into several groups of people: some welcome the drop in the priority of family values. Others are fundamentally different from the first in that they value the concept of family, kinship relationships and family hearth. And there is a group of those who introduce a mixed type of relationship in their families, in which some traditions are preserved, but at the same time, a modern way of life is welcomed, which is characterized by the share of freedom given to children (on family councils their opinion is taken into account, some questions).
The shift in life priorities, according to the researchers, happened at the moment when there was a struggle for a better life, competition for the highest material wealth and, as a result, comparing people with each other not in terms of personal qualities, but in material wealth. But the spiritual discord in family relations and the emergence of a conflict of generations came because people live in the same family who lived at different times, when they valued different qualities: the time of the socialist union (the main value is spiritual unity) and the times of democracy (the value is material wealth).
Of course, there are exceptions to every rule, and therefore it makes no sense to insist that today's society considers money to be the main value. Each family values its own, and the conflict of generations takes place where there is no mutual understanding and respect between family members.
