More and more teachers, school principals and parents of students are realizing the extraordinary usefulness of a psychologist directly at school. But not everyone who wants to work in this position knows how to become a school psychologist.

Step 1
To begin with, you need to get a specialized higher education in the specialty of a psychologist, educational psychologist or social worker. No other specialist is eligible to work as a school psychologist. The form of study (full-time, evening or part-time) does not really matter. In the learning process, try to do practice in schools. This will help you make friends and gain the experience you need.
Step 2
Job search. There are several ways. Let's consider each of them. For a start - ask around all your acquaintances. Surely there will be someone who works at the school. Even if a psychologist is not required at the school where your friend works, this person will still help you: he will spread information about you through the director, head teacher or an existing school psychologist. Word of mouth nowadays remains perhaps the best way to find a job for a psychologist, including a school one.
Step 3
Walk through the schools in person. It is advisable to communicate directly with the directors. It is better to do this in the spring: then the directors know how many psychologist rates will be open for the next academic year. You can also look at your home school, where you once studied. This is a very controversial way. On the one hand, you are known and can be easily recruited. On the other hand, it is often difficult for a former student (albeit one who graduated from school many years ago) to become a professional in the eyes of their teachers.
You can also meet a working school psychologist. He probably also has information in which school they are looking for this specialist.
Step 4
Another way to find out about the vacancy of a psychologist is to go to the website of the Department of Education. There you will find a database of vacancies for each school. But even if the vacancy is not indicated there, this does not mean that they are not looking for a psychologist in any school. Very often, several teachers share the stake before hiring a psychologist.
Step 5
Find the methodological center of the area psychologists. All school psychologists in one district have their own supervisor outside the school - a methodologist who oversees their work. A methodologist can be a single person working in a school in the same area, or methodological support can be provided by several people on the basis of a center (for example, a center for additional education in a given area). It is easiest to find out the contacts of a methodologist through already working school psychologists. Also, the methodologist can provide invaluable assistance at the initial stages of the work of a school psychologist: he will share his experience, methods, work plans, etc.
