After birth, the child receives the status of a citizen of the country. However, in order for this status to become official, and the new citizen of Russia to be able to enjoy all the rights that are due to him, it is necessary to issue the first documents in his life in a timely manner: a birth certificate and residence permit.

What you need to know about the rules for registration

Each parent should know that the registration of a newborn baby is mandatory, as it provides the opportunity to enjoy social rights: registration of cash benefits for the child and receiving free medical care, and in the future - and a place in kindergarten. The registration procedure itself is quite simple, and in order to avoid any problems, parents need to take into account several points:

- the mother of the baby must herself come to the passport office and write an application for registration of the newborn's registration at the place of her registration;

- if the parents are registered at different addresses and live separately, you will also need a statement from the dad, in which he must express his consent to the registration of the baby at the address indicated in the mother's statement;

- the small size of the living space is not an argument for refusing to register;

- a child under the age of 16 can be registered only at the address of the parents (in their absence, at the address of the guardian);

- the grounds for refusal of registration at the place of registration of the mother cannot be the objection of the homeowners or persons registered in it.

List of documents required for registration

Often problems with registration arise due to the fact that when submitting an application, parents do not provide all the necessary documents. To avoid multiple visits to the passport office, you need to bring the following with you:

- original and photocopy of the child's birth certificate;

- originals and photocopies of parents' passports;

- original marriage certificate (if any);

- a statement of the second parent certified by a notary, in which he indicates that he does not object to the registration of the child at the specified address (if the parents live separately).

Nuances of registration of a newborn

Although the entire procedure for registering a child is clearly defined, sometimes there are mistakes made by employees of the passport office. The most common of them is that the registration stamp is put on the birth certificate (instead of the parents' passports), which is a gross violation. Parents need to remember: the certificate can only contain a stamp of citizenship. To avoid an error, you should discuss this point with the passport office employees even when submitting documents. If correctly filled out in the passport, an entry with the surname, name, patronymic, date of birth of the child and the number of the birth certificate should appear on the page "Children".

The second mistake is made by the parents themselves, postponing registration. By law, the child must be registered within 3 months after birth, otherwise you will have to pay a late payment penalty.
