Chlamydial infection is a serious medical condition. It is especially dangerous due to the occurrence of complications, including pneumonia, conjunctivitis, damage to the joints, hearing organs, and genitourinary organs. Chlamydia in children is a relatively common phenomenon, especially in recent years. The earlier the diagnosis is carried out and the treatment is prescribed, the more opportunities to avoid complications.
Instructions
Step 1
There are two main routes of infection with chlamydia in children - this is vertical (from a sick mother to a newborn, both in utero and when passing through the genital tract during childbirth) and contact-household (usually from a sick family member if hygiene rules are not followed). Adolescents can become infected through sexual intercourse. The disease can be suspected with the following symptoms: unusually frequent, but not prolonged acute respiratory infections with dry paroxysmal cough, edema and inflammation of the genitals, accompanied by itching and burning sensation during urination (these signs appear in urogenital chlamydia mainly in girls), redness of the eyes and discharge from them, causing the eyelids to stick together, especially after sleep. Also, with some forms of chlamydial infection, people can become infected from sick animals (birds sometimes carry such a dangerous disease as psittacosis).
Step 2
The diagnosis is made on the basis of laboratory tests. The sooner an infection is detected, the easier it is to give birth to a child with a mother with chlamydia; treatment begins in the maternity hospital. Self-medication with antibiotics is unacceptable, as well as early interruption of the course.
Step 3
Chlamydia is easier to prevent than cure. All family members must observe personal hygiene; the use of other people's towels or underwear is unacceptable, especially if someone in the family is already sick. Talk to teens about sexually transmitted diseases and the need for contraception. Do not allow children to touch pigeons and sparrows picked up on the street - they can be a source of psittacosis. After the course of treatment at the time prescribed by the doctor, take the tests again. If you have a chlamydial infection during pregnancy, carry out the prescribed course of treatment, be sure to check with your doctor if the drugs prescribed by him are allowed for your period of pregnancy.
