Most preschool children do not have a very good idea of the baby. The task of parents is to inform about the appearance of a brother or sister at the most appropriate moment. Before you tell an older child about a joyful event, you need to prepare him for this.
Instructions
Step 1
Go with your child to visit friends who have recently had a baby. Let your firstborn watch how they dress up the baby, how they play with him.
Step 2
Watch a children's or cartoon movie with your child in which the characters are caring for small children.
Step 3
Show your child photos of him as a baby. Tell him what he knew how to do then.
Step 4
It is not worth discussing with an older child about his future responsibilities related to the appearance of a baby. Set your child up for pleasant changes. Tell him that he can ride a real stroller, taste delicious baby food.
Step 5
If unusual reactions appear on the part of the first-born, you need to treat this with understanding and patience. For example, a child may want to be small again. Do not shame him, but shake him in your arms, if he wants it, play with him. He will quickly calm down and "grow up" again.
Step 6
Do not show excessive tenderness to the baby with an older child. Do this when your firstborn is not around.
Step 7
When showing attention to the younger, do not forget about the elder. Don't be afraid to let him hold your brother or sister. So they will quickly develop affection for each other. Just be sure to control this process.
