With the birth of a newborn baby, many questions arise, including how to feed, when and how many times a day, is a regimen needed or is it best to feed on demand? These, quite obvious, questions are of concern to most women who have become mothers of first-borns. After all, those who already have experience of motherhood know how to behave with a newborn child and how to teach him to eat at the same time.
Instructions
Step 1
It is worth teaching a newborn to eat according to the regimen when lactation has already been established, that is, after the first weeks of the child's life. During this time, the mother already begins to understand after what period of time, after the previous feeding, milk begins to arrive, how much the baby eats and how often he asks for breast. The feeding regime must be maintained in order to avoid such unpleasant phenomena as colic. The interval between feedings should be approximately 2.5-3 hours. Most textbooks write this way, but in reality, it is not always possible to comply with it. There can be many reasons for this, for example, the baby does not eat enough. In this case, it is worth paying attention to what mom eats. Perhaps her milk is not fat enough or milk is not enough, which means that supplementation with a mixture may be required.
Step 2
If the baby is artificially fed, that is, he uses a mixture instead of his mother's milk, then everything is much simpler here, since supplementation with plain water is also allowed. Of course, you can also give water to babies who are breastfed, but many pediatricians do not recommend this, so that the mother does not have a decrease in the amount of milk. To satisfy the sucking reflex, a pacifier is often used, so you can calm hungry crying while mom prepares the mixture. Thus, you can control the time the baby is taking the mixture, bringing him to the desired mode.
Step 3
The surest way to get your baby to use the same feeding schedule is to feed him at the same time. It is possible to deviate from the established rules when the baby is sick and needs a breast not only in order to satisfy hunger, but also to calm down, to feel mother's protection. You should not bring a newborn baby to hysterical hungry crying just for the sake of the fact that you do not have ten minutes to eat according to the regimen. This is an insignificant deviation and is entirely permissible.
Step 4
While the newborn is awake, try to pay more attention to him, play, distract his attention, do gymnastics, walk. If the baby begins to be capricious, do not immediately strive to give him a bottle of formula or a breast. This is fraught with the fact that his body will not have time to digest food after the previous feeding, and this will lead to colic and anxiety, regurgitation of food.
