Labor pains are painful contractions of the uterus before labor. During contractions, the cervix gradually opens so that the baby can be born.
Instructions
Step 1
Pain during labor in the beginning is similar to menstrual pain in the lower abdomen. Only they are not pulling, but periodic. Contractions have a beginning and an end. In the break between them, relief comes, you need to relax as much as possible at this moment in order to have the strength to withstand the next wave of pain.
Step 2
The contraction is like a sea wave - it starts with mild pain, which gradually intensifies and reaches its peak, and then gradually weakens and subsides. Coping with pain during a contraction, it is necessary to imagine exactly the wave - it is useful to mentally try to stay on it and not let yourself be absorbed.
Step 3
In the first birth, contractions last from 7 to 12 hours. The very first contractions begin with a feeling of heaviness and aching pain in the lower abdomen, then they become more distinct and regular - painful contractions of the uterus last 15-30 seconds and pass with alternation of 10-15 minutes. During contractions, the cervix becomes more pliable and soft, it gradually opens under the pressure of the child, as well as under the influence of the hormones oxytocin and prostaglandin.
Step 4
During contractions, the mother's mental state is passed on to the child. If the woman in labor is agitated, her stress hormones are passed on to the baby. If a woman tries to calmly cope with pain during contractions, then they pass easier.
Step 5
During periods of labor, some women find it difficult to lie down. You need to follow the dictates of your body and take the position that is most comfortable and convenient. In the initial period, it is easier for many to endure pain in motion.
Step 6
Immediately before the start of the attempts, the contractions lengthen in time and become more frequent - they last up to 90 seconds and are repeated every 0.5-1 minutes. Painful sensations intensify, and then turn into attempts.
Step 7
The right mental attitude, rest, massage of the lower back, and proper breathing can help reduce pain during contractions.
