All newly minted mothers know that the process of establishing breastfeeding is laborious and sometimes lengthy. Sometimes a woman may not have enough milk to properly nourish the crumbs. Many of them do not even suspect about it, and only when they come to the pediatrician's appointment, they find out that the baby did not put on weight at all in the first month of life.

Instructions

Step 1

There are several criteria for determining the sufficiency of breast milk for an infant. If you have any doubts about whether the baby is eating enough, you need to monitor the frequency of urination of the child. A well-fed baby pees at least 10 times a day. To do this, leave the baby without a diaper and watch how often the films are wet. If the baby has enough milk, his urine will be light and almost odorless. Otherwise, the urine has a pungent characteristic odor, it has a bright yellow color.

Step 2

The main criterion for determining the sufficiency of breast milk for a baby is weight gain. As a rule, the child regains the physiological loss that occurred in the first days of life in two weeks. For the first month, the baby should gain at least 600-700 grams. If your baby urinates frequently and is gaining weight well, it is safe to say that he has enough milk.

Step 3

Sometimes mommies experience excessive anxiety about the satiety of the crumbs. Even if a child gains little weight, it does not mean that he does not have enough milk. The baby does not remain hungry if by the end of the feed he falls asleep, does not feel anxiety while eating, does not throw the breast and does not cry.

Step 4

If the baby can withstand the intervals between feedings, then perhaps he is also full. But even if the baby wakes up often, this does not always mean that he is hungry. It happens that the baby is tormented by colic, he just wants to be with his mother, to feel her smell and warmth.

Step 5

Concentration, color and odor of stools are also signs of adequate nutrition. If it is not too thick, yellow in color, has a sour milk smell, then the baby is probably gorged. A hungry child's stool is brownish and denser. However, according to these criteria, it is impossible to make an unambiguous conclusion about the sufficiency of milk, in contrast to the first two. Therefore, if you have doubts about the satiety of your crumbs, pay attention to all the criteria in aggregate, analyze, observe the behavior of the child, if necessary, contact a breastfeeding consultant.
