Step 1
A child's vision begins to develop from birth to 18-20 years. Therefore, during this period, it is not recommended to carry out various operations on the eyes, because they are still forming. Even in the maternity hospital, the newborn is examined by a doctor and be sure to check if there are any deviations. Of course, at this time it is very difficult to say how well the child sees, but there will already be elementary reactions to light.
Step 2
All doctors, including an ophthalmologist, should examine the child every month. At the first visit, the baby will simply look at the eyes, check the reaction to light and the ability to focus on an object, as well as the visual field and whether there is congenital strabismus. At this age, not all children can follow something, so all data will be very general. If there is any indication from the doctor, then the child is brought in a little later, to three months, if everything is fine, then it is required to show the baby at six months.

The need to show a child to an ophthalmologist in the first year of life several times is due to the fact that some eye problems are much easier to prevent at this age. For example, strabismus is well treated at an early age, by closing the eye for a while, and older children will need much more effort to get rid of this disease.

At this age, some changes may already be visible, including astigmatism.

When the child already starts talking, visual acuity is checked using a table. First, Orlova's method is used with images of animals and toys, a little later - Sivtsev's table with letters. At this stage, it is determined whether the child sees well, and it is advisable to check each eye.
Step 6
You can check your child's eyesight at home, for this you need to print tables and show them at a three-meter distance, at an older age - at a 5-meter distance. One has only to understand that this information will not be entirely accurate, and if there are any doubts, then it is better to contact a specialist.
