Just think of what childish self-control and character you need to have in order not to open your mouth in public. With all this, the silent are very attentive and understand much more than other children.
There are cases when silence in emphasis on people is due to wounded pride. For example, the child does not pronounce some letters or stutters. If at the same time he has a high intellect, then this turns out to be a very traumatic circumstance and the baby prefers to be silent rather than speak incorrectly or not like all children.
But more often than not, the child simply does not have objective reasons for mutism (this is what the unwillingness to speak is called). The baby can talk normally, perceive the world adequately. Then we are already talking not about atusma (the disease of complete immersion in oneself), nor about mental retardation, nor about psychological trauma. This is most likely a pathological desire for leadership. The kid wants to reign and command, but evaluating his strength, he understands that he owns only his family. Although other adults often show increased attention: someone is trying to talk, someone is just sorry.
If the child is constantly silent, then you also need to pay attention to his relationship with the mother, since she must constantly be with the baby, otherwise the child loses direct connection with the world. On the one hand, this complicates the life of the mother, relieves her of her personal space, on the other hand, the mother is satisfied with the feeling of necessity and indispensability. That is why mothers need to deal with bilateral addiction, without this there is practically no chance of coping with the mutism of children.
After that, you need to make another effort - to rebuild your relationship with the child. Give him independence not only in words, but also in deeds. To do this, you can subtly put the baby in a hopeless position, when, striving for his goals, he will simply be forced to say a few words to outsiders. For example, do not buy anything, it is better to give money and send it to a stall for sweets or ice cream. Just don't persuade! If he does not want it, he will be left without sweets. Such situations need to be created every day.
Of course, it is difficult to meet somewhere adults with a sound mind who do not speak a word. Over time, such mutism disappears, but by the time the mutist matures to communicate with people, the human psyche is irreparably deformed.
